SELF-PROTECTION WORKSHOPS
In my opinion, Situational Awareness goes hand in hand with Self-Protection. Knowing how to protect yourself is not a “1 size fits all” kind of thing. Let’s state the obvious: a 7 years old child will not be targeted for a cell phone or an ATM card, but a teen might be. As a woman, you will less likely find yourself in a bar fight but maybe you will be identified as an easy target on a boozy night out with friends. Kids, Teens, Women, and professionals who travel for business all face different kinds of dangers. For this reason, I have developed different approaches and methods to highlight the importance of common sense that is appropriate and relevant for each demographics.
What is Situational Awareness?
Situational Awareness is to know what is going on around you. You have to develop a habit of noticing your surroundings at all times so that you are never surprised by an attack! If that fails, you must know, how to talk yourself out of the situation. In case all fails, you must fight like your life depends on it!
What is Self-Protection?
Self-Protection is to know how NOT to fight. It is about being smart... street smart.
Self-Protection rule #1 Never fight a fight that you don’t need to fight! If the situation gives you a luxury just to walk away than take it! After all, the ego is a poor substitute for Self-confidence! In general, there are 3 ways that we differentiate: Mental-verbal- physical ways to keep you out of harm's way. You have to know how to think your way out of a potentially bad situation. If there is no way of escaping than you must use your voice as it is one of your greatest weapons! Criminals do not expect their prey to fight back but if you are perceived as a “mad alpha”, you have a great chance of falling off their hook.
What is Self-Defense?
If you need to defend yourself, it means that the perpetrator of your peace is resilient enough to enter into a physical fight. A real fight has its own taste that will not only mark your soul but maybe your body as well for life. If you are lucky, you will overpower your opponent. But what if not? Let’s not take a chance! Do not rely on what is shown on TV or what is taught by your intimidating martial art instructor. Let’s leave the flashy Hollywood stunts for Jason Statham and let’s leave martial arts wherever it belongs to... to the martial arts studios.
